Since T-Online (german DSL-Provider) closed his free relay service I switched to Arcor to use their smtp relay. To authenticate my ASL I use "TLS" and "SMTP authentication" (since I do not know how to use authentication without TLS.
Everything worked fine for me until I assumingly installed ASL 4.1008.
Reading the notes "A new exim (SMTP-Proxy) is for a small AV-interaction bugfix also included" makes me wonder if this might be related to my problem.
Here is part of my exim.conf-default:
# ---------- Transports section ------------
begin transports
# we use SMTP only
remote_smtp:
driver = smtp
hosts_require_auth = 151.189.0.87
hosts_avoid_tls = *
# ---------- Auth section --------------------
begin authenticators
# plain auth (should only be used with SSL)
plain:
driver = plaintext
public_name = PLAIN
server_condition = "${if pam{$2:$3}{1}{0}}"
server_set_id = $2
client_send = "^^"
# login auth (should only be used with SSL)
login:
driver = plaintext
public_name = LOGIN
server_prompts = "Username:: : Password::"
server_condition = "${if pam{$1:$2}{1}{0}}"
server_set_id = $1
client_send = " : "
Using a email client that supports clientauth (without encryption) does work.
So my assumption is that Astaro changed something in their update... hope someone from Astaro can help since I have no other installation (4.1007) to crosscheck...

P.S. can someone tell me how to tell exim/ASL to NOT use encryption - maybe this could be a workarround?
