smtp proxy-some outgoing mails won't be delivered

I have a problem with the smtp proxy. some outgoing mails are not being delivered for some reason.

first there's a message like this :

me@mydomain.com -> user@outside.com
Subject: test
Content Scanner: [message processed ok]
Cause: 2003-06-23 11:48:42 user@outside.com R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp defer (-53): retry time not reached for any host
------------------------------------------------------

and then, after a while it says :
-------------------------------------------------------
user@outside.com R=dnslookup T=remote_smtp defer (104): Connection reset by peer: mail.outside.com [194.132.1.3]
-------------------------------------------------------

(I made these addresses up, that's not the real ones...)

the odd thing is : the problem seems to appear when sending mails to certain domains, but : some mails to these domains go through, others don't.

does anyone have a clue what's going on here ? any help on this would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Chris,

    I don't know, where you are located, but you can have this behavior in germany for example with 't-online'.
    If you are member of 't-online' and want to send to someone at 't-online' you have to use a relay or smart-host for delivery to the other member of' t-online'.

    yes I've read about that somewhere in this forum. the domains I want to send mails to are not t-online and they don't use an smtp relay as far as I know.

    Any suggesstions. I am running ASL 4.008

    it seems as if spam filtering ate up all memory ressources and thus, the mail service got messed up.
    I gave my machine another 265 mb and didn't have this problem ever since.
