SMTP Proxy inbound (astaro 3.218)

Hi All,

I'd like your help on the following:
- I created an entry on DynDNS -> say "bla.gotdns.org", and added an MX record pointing to the same IP-adres
- I enabled SMTP Proxy/Relay, and created a route for "bla.gotdns.org" pointing to my local mailserver

Despite of this, sending mail trough the SMTP proxy goes well, but it just doesn't except inbound mail (for mailaccount@bla.gotdns.org)
Another thing is, that i tried connecting to the box from the internet on port 25.... but it was blocked! So it can never accept mail......

For short: Help! What did I do wrong....

    If it was blocked, is there any clues in the packet filter log?

    actually "blocked" isn't the correct word.... it's more that it seems if there's no service listening.
    The packetlogs don't have any entries in it containing anything for port 25....

    What I understood of other threads on the forum, is that enabling the SMTP-proxy should be enough, no further packetfilter modifications should be needed. Isn't this true??

    "Blocked" seems fine it's behacing as if not smtp service is listening OR packets are being dropped. If they were being rejected, it would come back immediately

    As I understand it, enabling the smtp proxy ensures the service is listening. However, it won't harm to test this by temporarily enabling access to the external interface for all for the smtp protocol.

    Also, you don't have any kind of filter/block set in the proxy that could stop you connecting - eg using a Dial UP List block?

    I don't know what you mean by the "Dial up list block", could you tell me what you mean? (where to find it...)

    Concerning the other things: I already tried to explicity allowing SMTP access to the external interface... unfortunately it didn't work. I am sure the SMTP-service is listening, because I can connect to it (on the external ip) from my loca network......  [:S]

    Is it possible that your ISP is blocking port 25 inbound to you. I know some in the UK do by default in an attempt to stop mail relays.

    By dial up list block I mean using the lists of IP addresses of dialup accounts that are available. These are often used in blocking access to SMTP services and such as valiid mail servers would normally have a permanent internet connection. It may be implemented via ASL's SMTP proxy RBL option.

    Guys,

    I sent an e-mail to my internetprovider to ask for there policy regarding mailservers. They told me they did "allow" mailservers to be run... but that port 25 is blocked (they suggested me to use port 26 .... *sigh*.. try using that with an MX record...)  

    So that was the solution... 
    I want to thank you for the help I got, but I guess I'll have to find myself another provider after all.....

    That's too bad.  As a note, in Toronto one cable company blocks inbound SMTP but allows outbound.  The DSL company blocks outbound but allows inbound.  Go figure.

    What you could do if you have a buddy with proper inbound is a VPN and the other end is the MX but is then pushed down the VPN to your end.  I do this for connections that block inbound SMTP.   In return they push their outbound to me for sending.
