HTTP proxy does not allow access to internal WWW S

I have the HTTP proxy configured for internal win2k using NTLM Authentication. When I configure the proxy address in IE 6SP1 I can not get to web pages on the internal servers. I either get unable to retreive URL from the DNS cache or401.2 errors access denied. All is good without using the proxy.
