smtp proxy question

you don't need the smtp relay for the notification E-mails. Make sure you enter the administrator E-mail address correct and the Astaro can resolve the domain name. Even if you don't use the DNS proxy you should enter the forwarding nameservers, you can disable the DNS proxy if you don't need it.

    hi,

    is it necessary to enable the smtp proxy just to get the notification emails from the firewall ?

    we have a problem with the notifications (backups, login failures, portscan mails etc). sometimes they get stuck in the mailq. therefore i enabled the smtp proxy today, which we do not realy need.

    is it possible to block access to the qmail proxy though it is enabled ? i added rules like these:

    any -> ip.ext.interface:smtp   drop
    and
    any -> ip.dmz.interface:smtp   drop

    at the top of my rules but one could still connect to port 25 on both interfaces ! why that ?

    any ideas ?
