Before activating smtp relay for my company's email server, I've setup a personal email server and a personal asl firewall on my own domain, as a test system. The email server is redhat 7.3 running sendmail-8.11.6. The firewall is asl3.2 patched through .16
SMTP relaying turned on.
Both servers and the administrative workstation can ping each other on the 192.18.1.x interfaces.
I've defined the mail server and have packet filtering setup to allow smtp from mailserver to any and from any to mail server.
In smtp relay, the name of the mail server matches the mx record on the dns server. The mail server proxies dns through the firewall to dns servers my company hosts (which contain the master dns records for the email server's domain).
Sendmail config has the full dns.name of the firewall as well as the short name listed under local domains.
I can send email out but email coming in hangs in the smtp queue with an ok message - for hours.
Where do I look for the problem?
Thanks
Mike
