NTLM proxy authentication issues

Question-

I currently have Astaro's http proxy set up to authenticate to my Win2000 domain controller. The actual authentication works, all domain accounts work as proxy accounts but there are a few issues:

1) After users authenticate to the proxy, users get the usual "page cannot be displayed" error as if it cannot connect to the site. If the site is typed in again or you hit refresh, it will work fine. (this is with IE6-sp1. all non-microsoft browsers work fine)

2) Is there a way to set it up so that users who are logged into the domain do not have to log in again to the proxy? Everything is totally seamless when using MS-Proxy or ISA server. I realize this is dealing with 2 totally different forms of authentication, but it is supposedly possible according to this link:   http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-23.html 

Both of these problems are more of a microsoft issue than they are an astaro issue, but MS's support site has not been very much help. These two issues are all that is keeping me from replacing our company's MS-proxy with a full-blown astaro setup.

    2) ASL cannot grep userdata directly from the system, it uses an own piece
    of software which authenticates once. 
    The browser caches data for the current session - means if you
    open a second browser you would have to authenticate again. 

    You could try a multiple tab browser like mozilla

    Ok great, its nice to know that MS acknowledges this as a bug....I had to google the KB number to find the actual patch for the bug (MS does not make it public) but it fixed the problem. As for the seamless authentication deal, I figured it was not possible but had to hear it from someone in the know. I wish i could get everyone using a non-MS browser but one step at a time i guess:-) . 

    For those who are interested, I found the patch  here  that fixes the bug (tested under W2K and XP, YMMV). 

    Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. Hopefully I should get to implement ASL on my corporate net soon, I have been using the home-use license at home for a great while. I'm looking forward to giving you guys some much-deserved business.

    I would very much like to install this MS patch - but it is apparantly not available in Danish.

    Do anyone of you know how to obtain this in Danish, or is it possible to use the English version on a Danish IE6.0SP1?

    for you 2nd question, there is trick with your IE security setting.

    IE-> tools -> internet options -> security -> customize level 

    the last option is "user authentication", in your case, you should choose "Automatic logon with your current username and password"

    In responce to your second question, new versions of Squid (the http proxy used in Astaro) do support IE without the requirement of entering a password for each new session, or even for the first session.

    Simply switching browsers isn't really a practicle solution for many of us. Maybe if enough of us voice how important this addition to Astaro is it will get added to a near future release.
