HTTP Proxy Auth (Radius) - Strange surfing issue

I currently have my users authenticating through a radius server to the HTTP proxy on port 8080.
All of the users are using various versions of MS Internet Explorer. All users are configured to use the proxy server on the LAN.
When a user loads internet explorer and tries to surf to an external site the authentication prompt appears (as normal) but when the user name and password are entered correctly it attempts to connect to the external site, instantly a page cannot be displayed error occurs indicating that it could not resolve the DNS address correctly. Then if you retype the address manually in the address bar the page then displays correctly.
Interesting enough, all sites under HTTPS do not expericence the same error.

Any pointers?

HTTPS uses 443 not 80(transparent proxy) or 8080(manual proxy). So your HTTPS requests don't go through Squid and avoid this problem. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Do you get the same error just using the refresh button on the browser?

Could it be that your https traffic is sent via a separate rule and not over the proxy?
