Problem with SMTP proxy very urgent

The problem is the one mentioned also from frankie. I try o explain better.

We have a ASL in our most important point (in Italy) and behind that (in the DMZ) we've a linux server that do Mail (SMTP and POP3),  Web server and DNS.

In Tunis (our second point, where now i am) we've a second ASL installation making VPN with the first one.

The 2 sides have their own internet connection with 2 different provider.

What we want to do is to allow Tunis users to check mail with outlook on Italy server by pop3 (and this work) and to send mail with outlook using as SMTP server their local ASTARO.

We've configured SMTP relay on astaro and its DNS is the Italian DNS, with 2 forwarder of the Tunisian provider.

I found all e-mails in the queue in OK status, but not relayed, and in the log i find this traces alternates (if i stop and restart the SMTP service by ssh):

Nov  7 20:01:17 (none) exim[23186]: 2002-11-07 20:01:17 189mWI-0004D1-00 == MAIL ADDRESS CENSORED T=remote_smtp defer (113): No route to host

Nov  7 20:01:17 (none) exim[23201]: 2002-11-07 20:01:17 189jnX-0004Rx-00 == MAIL ADDRESS CENSORED T=remote_smtp defer (-44): retry time not reached for any host

Please help us. The e-mail of the corp is completely stopped.

    Maybe I am a little bit lost here, but what e-mail is not working:

    1) mails sent from Tunis to
    a) your internal address
    b) any address
    or
    2) mails that should be received at your mail server at italy

    In the first case, the problem might be related with your DNS configuration. If other protocols work, then it isn't.

    In the second case, the problem might be your MX setting. Is it set to Astaro ip/fqdn or your mail server? Should be Astaro, or if you don't want to scan for viruses, just your email server.

    Please, provide some more information about these settings and nature of problem.

    The problem, is that any e-mail from tunis to outside doesn't esc from the astaro.

    The MX resides on the Italian dns server and point to the public address of the italian mail server

    Okay, so we have version 1b  [:)] 

    So, does your other functions work? Like http (using dns proxy) .. or WebAdmin tool ping with name address?

    Did you set up the forwarding name servers with ip? Can you use nslookup from your internal network? If yes, does it reply to MX query for eg. yahoo.com correctly?

    BTW, do you receive any administrator e-mails from the box at Tunis?

    all working properly, except smtp relay. The DNS query are working properly. No email are sent outside astaro, and the admin e-mail is on the italian server (there is no server in tunis)

    Starting to run out of ideas ..

    Can you do SMTP thru Astaro to 3rd party? For example via the provider's SMTP server?

    Did you set up SMTP proxy at Italy, and if yes, is that working?

    Should the mail from Tunis to Italy go through the VPN tunnel ? Cause this would probably not work correctly, since the FW will use the wrong outgoing interface address.

    To simplyfy the configuration, I would suggest to use the Italian SMTP relay for the Tunis clients.
