RBL's & DNS......Roll your own blocklist?

Point:  The info I'm gleaning from Spew.org and the like is that they use DNS to propagate and access their blocklists.

Question:  IF I care to block near-spammers like Flowgo.com.  Can I set up my own internal DNS server and list flowgo there while pointing SMTP blocklist at it and POOF!  [:O]ets a boost?

Will this work?  I haven't had the time to expereriment yet, and I know Astaro won't look internally for a DNS server, but what about a blocklist?

Probably.

Most RBL's work as DNS servers, and return an IP of 127.0.0.2 for blacklisted mail relays, so you could set up a DNS server yourself and create zones for those, etc.

It might be easier to do this with procmail or something else on your mailserver though.

Thanks for the 127.0.0.2 tip, but it doesn't seem to work.

I've set the zone as flowgo.com and listed several of their servers (mail3045, mail3046, etc...) but they still get through.

Hmmmm, I wonder if I'm missing something or if this just won't fly.

goldfly, did you specify your 'rbl/dns server' as the correct server at astaro rbl setting?

because that's where it asks, and if you have some rbl address, it'l ask there.
