What's the rule of the DNS proxy?

If I use a Name Server in the DMZ, it's essential to set up the DNS proxy on the firewall?

    You definitely must!

    The DNS-proxy acts as a forwarding DNS-server and will ask the servers you define in the proxy-settings (they appear after you enabled the proxy). Your DNS-server in the DMZ must ask the DNS-forwarder, otherwise this one has no connection to any nameserver on the outside.
