SMTP Relay problem with some e-mail addresses

I have problems with sending e-mails to specific domains like "@t-online.de". These mails stay in smtp-queue whereas other mails are being forwarded.

This problem occurs on ASL 3.030, 3.031 and 3.040

    Hi Harry,

    we had the same problems because we are members of t-online ourselves.

    Look at the t-online pages.  I can't remember where I found it.
    First you have to sign on for the smtprelay an then enter in ASL under proxies/smtp/smtp-routes for the domain t-online.de the ip-adress 194.25.134.28
    the same is needed for t-online.at

    For us it works since then

    I'm using the smtprelay-server already. but i don't understand why mails to *@t-online stay in queue...

    it can't be a problem of t-online because using the smtprelay directly with my e-mail-client works, so i think it's an ASL-problem.

    ..did you change the ASL host name to an existing domain ? Maybe this would solve your prob ?!?

    The ASL hostname belongs to my local domain.
    But I don't understand why the hostname is important for SMTP-Relay.

    The only thing that ASL should do is forwarding every mail to smtprelay.t-online.de. And it works with every e-mail apart from e-mails having the domain-part "@t-online.de". Using Microsofts SMTP-Relay (Windows 2K Advanced Server) instead of ASL works fine.

    to understand the problem it would be very helpful if
    you could send a clip of the mail log.
    You can find it in /var/log/mail or in
    Version 3.0x under Log Files/SMTP.

    One mail is FROM user@internetdomain.com TO abcde.fghijklm@t-online.de (not working) and one mail is FROM user@internetdomain.com TO user@internetdomain.com (working)

    My question: Does ASL use the Relay-Server for the second mail???

    i'm already a registered smtp-relay user and it works well with other smtp-proxies than asl

    Hi,

    in your logs the mailer tries to send the mail to one of the t-online Mail-Servers returned by DNS. 

    These mail-servers do not work from within the t-online network. You have to define a SMTP route in the SMTP Proxy for the t-online Relayserver:

    t-online.de -> 194.25.134.28

    So, the SMTP Proxy will not use the DNS but your route for sending mail to t-online users.

    It worked for me with ASL 2.023
