Proxy authenication

I enabled http user level authenication, and specified "local", created the users, but it still does not prompt for a username. Any ideas? Help, I have a kid who I need to block except when we want him to access the internet.

    sorry to correct, but you must mean DISABLE transparant proxy... enabling it doesn't allow for proxy authentication.

    You must disable "transparent" mode and enable "user authentication".

    However I do have a couple of questions.  When the browser isset for 8080 it does prompt for the username and password in a none transparent mode, but if I disable the proxy in the browser, it goes right through without the authentication, even though the http proxy is still configured to require the authentication???  Any ideas?

    Also, the user authetication seems to work ok with the local users only and not the SAM enabled.  The browser just eventually times out. I do have the domain, pdc and bdc configured and correct wins and dns. Any ideas?

    do you have an additional rule that allows direct http access to the internet ?

    http-proxy with SAM-authentication:
    do you allow { netbios } access from your firewall to your PDC/BDC ? if not, you should get blocked packets with ip-address of your pdc and d-port 139 in your logs. when i allowed { netbios } all worked fine (using Samba/Linux as PDC/BDC).
