SMTP Virus Scan

Is it possible to scan all of the in/out SMTP traffic for viruses even though someone does not have an in house mail server? For example, if someone were to use another service provider and connect using a mail client.

    Because the 'SMTP-proxy' is a proxy: ;-)
    it only scans SMTP traffic.
    So if you use SMTP to check the mails: yes, if you use POP3: not (or you install fetchmail and get the emails via POP3, send them to the SMTP proxy via SMTP and doing after this a IP SMTP routing (works great on ASL!) to a internal SMTP server and get your mails with POP3 from the internal MTA to you client. Add the fetchmail call to the crontab and everything is good ;-)

    lop,  thank you for your response.  Sounds like I can still achieve virus scanning without the internal mail server.  Sorry for not being able to completely understand your e-mail, I am new to linux.

    If possible, please describe the complete process in full detail/steps.  I would be greatly appreciated.
