QMAIL HELP!!!!

Guys, I am running out of ideas, please help.

First I started receiving this message: Can not create /var/chroot-smtp/dev/log, so I deleted all of the queues, but they still fill up.  For some reason QMAIL is NOT working.  I am not receiving any of the e-mail from ASL, they just queue up.  From looking at some logs I saw a couple of messages:

Sorry, I wasn't able to establish an SMTP connection. (#4.4.1)
I'm not going to try again; this message has been in the queue too long.

"domain" being my public domain name.  I can successfully receive any mail from other people to my e-mail account (behind the firewall), but ASL seem to have a problem.

Please give me some steps to follow (in detail) to try to troubleshoot the problem.

    Do you have a mail server at your side of the box? It seems to me the Astaro box can not find your mailserver.

    Yes I do, I have a mail server on my Internal segment which is functioning ok.  I can send and receive messages to and from the Internet.

    It looks like the mail is bouncing. I have set up this at home. My internal mailserver accepts outgoing mail from the internal network and incoming mail from the outside (= ASTARO)to my domains. The internal mailserver drops all outgoing mail on the Astro box for scanning purposes.

    I set up Astaro to accept incoming mail from the outside to my domains. It also accepts mail from my internal mailserver. Astaro sends al this mail out to the Internet.

    This setup works prefectly. I hope this clears something up and help you to solve your problem.

    Hi all,

    funny - but no good at all; got the same problem as described in first post.
    Also became a member of the "no idea club".
    The strange thing is that this kind of ndr startet coming up round about 2 days ago, informing me every 10 minutes about that stuff.

    If anyone has any idea of what is going on and can be done - you'd save me lots of needless mails.
