qmail limit

Hi to all,

is it possible to set a limit for incoming mail in smtp-proxy (qmail)? We got problems with large e-mails. The mailserver in the dmz bounced the mails when to large back to the ASL. Then it would multibounced as long as the ASL gets overloaded!!!

How could we set qmail to the same limit as our mailserver in the dmz ?

    I beleive I am seeing the same problem here. Our email server has a hard limit of 10MB per email. At the moment I have a large email bouncing between Astaro and our email server which has so far eaten over 200GB of network traffic!!!

    We need a way to add maximum email size to Astaro.

    im sorry i don't know a way to limit the email size in qmail... (our next release will include a other MTA, which allows limiting the size of emails).

    To limit incoming message sizes, touch a file named databytes in the /var/qmail/control directory (can't remember location in ASL). The file should contain a single number- the upper limit of the bytes of a max mail message.

    Further controls are documented at Life with Qmail under "Configuration files"

    My apologies- the last message was confusing.

    The file "databytes" doesn't exist by default. If it did, the default value in the file would be a single line, with only "0" as the text/number. This signifies a no-limit situation.

    To begin enforcing limits, create the file, and enter the maximum number of bytes per message you are willing to receive. Remember, the size is the encoded size- some attachments may take more space when uuencoded or mime encoded, and the message headers and message text count towards the byte limit.

    thankyou Kenn for that wonderful advice... I had actually skimmed the Qmail manual but did not find that particular item   [:)] 

    btw, Astaro team, what will be the new MTA program?
