Howto Block Freemail Provider

Hi,
I am using ASL 1.8 with squid in transparent mode. Now I want to disable all freemail services (GMX, Hotmal, web.de, etc.).

I think I have to tell squid to block these domains. Can someone give me a hint where I should start configuring squid (squid.conf, redirect.rules) or has someone a out of the box configuration for that?

Hi Oliver,
I read your thread.
So here is what i did:
I edited redirect.rules an added the line:
regexi ^http://www.playboy.com/.* http://internalwebserver/deny.htm

Went to my browser and typed the url "www.playboy.com" and (yipiee) deny.htm appeared.

Now I typed:
"www.playboy.com/index.html" and the original page appeared.

Any ideas?

I got it.
I had to put my filter on the first line of the config file (above "abort .html").

Hey ASL Team, the first two lines of redirect.rules are the same (you could save about 10Bytes for your distribution )

Seems like it would be useful to have a file that local redirects could be added to help with upgrades..

Hi, its me again.
I entered my freemail filter to redirect.rules. eg.:
regexi freemail.web.de http://internalwebserver/deny.htm

But if you make a https connection to freemail.web.de squid is not interested in the redirect.rules and makes a CONNECT connection directly to that side.

How can I tell squid not to bypass the redirect.rules with a https connection?

What about adding sites (free e-mail, ad sites) that you want to block to the /etc/hosts file with an entry for localhost (127.0.0.1)???
I do this and it seems to work fine on my system.

Editing the /etc/hosts file will not work. This file gets changed at various times, so changing it will only work for a little while - until a reboot, up2date or WebAdmin change...
