Proxy Problem accessing an external application on port 8080

I know this may sound dumb, but here it goes.  A single user needs to access a WEB application over the Internet, the ports for this application are 80, 443 and 8080.  The user cannot access this application because port 8080 is not be forwarded through the proxy.

I know port 8080 is in use by the HTTP proxy, but is there a way to allow the proxy to forward 8080 requests through the web, or should I redefine the proxy to use another port - 3128?  It seams that the HTTP proxy would still need to know to forward port 8080 on through to the remote application.

Any assistance in this matter would be appreciated.
