I would like to hear from anyone that has moved from another Anti-Spam service

We are currently using Trend Micro Hosted Email Security and, overall, have been very pleased with it. In fact, the accuracy of its SPAM detection has been very good, it's when you release a false positive that it's not so good. 

Anyway, I'm up for renewal with Trend and thought that I would take a look at the Astaro/Sophos UTM9 solution. Since the Trend solution is a combo Endpoint and Anti-Spam solution, I'm also trying out the Sophos Endpoint protection and have already activated the two clients that come with the product. I'm not going to be able to "try" out the Email Protection before I buy the product and the Sophos quote is a bit higher than my Trend renewal, I would like to hear from anyone that has moved from something else. Are you pleased with the accuracy of the SPAM detection? Any problems from your users with the quarantine and releasing email? Did the Sophos/Astaro solution cost more than your previous solution and do you feel it was worth it? Any other comments would be most appreciated.

    Most people who come here are lurkers.  It's a shame really.

    In the interest of full disclosure, if you can't tell from my odd title, I'm an Astaro employee.  BUT, before that I was a customer for many years.  

    I'm a firm believe in defense-in-depth.  For spam mitigation I would run different vendors products at different layers of the infrastructure.  Astaro at the perimeter, different anti-spam on the email servers, and some additional on the client systems.  Properly configured, I achieved in the high-90th percentile spam-mitigation at the perimeter with Astaro.  

    Key to this is that Astaro uses multiple techniques to stop spam.  As a base-line we use CommTouch as the spam database.  They are a very large spam database vendor that is used within many other products from multiple companies, such as dedicated anti-spam devices, UTMs, and email servers.  The products that use CommTouch feed false-positive and false-negative information back to CommTouch for inclusion in the master database, the benefits of which are shared by the users of every product that uses it.  Then we have the option to use DNS black-lists and allow you to add any that you choose.  Finally, you have RDNS checks, greylisting, BATV, and SPF.

    Like Bob said, contact a reseller to get an evaluation and try it for yourself.
