SMTP delay anyway to speed things up ?

We have been starting to get delays when sending mail from our Astaro gateway, the problem is that between 4am and 7am we send out about 50,000 emails. At around 5am we send a batch of emails to around 2,000 clients and these are emails are approximately 42KB in size. These emails are taking roughly about 30 minutes to process from hitting the Astaro SMTP pool. Now my problem is that we have a dedicated BT circuit with 100 mbps up and 100 mbps Down. Now Considering this and our hardware should this be taking this long to process ?

ProLiant DL360 G5
2 x Xeon Quad Core 2 GHz
4GB RAM
Running Astaro V7

My problem is that I have an i5 in my home office running Astaro and I have tested this with 5,000 emails with the same size going out to a flop list and this completes in about 5 minutes or less considering I have a connection with 20 mbps up and 60 mbps down. However this particular setup I am running is V8.303 at my home office.

We have been having this problem for a couple of weeks now but recently this is becoming an issue for us. Last night we restarted our Astaro box after which it failed to come back up when I plugged a monitor into the box it stated a disk check had failed. Clearly the hard drive had failed.

We thought perhaps this corrupted disk was causing the issue so we failed over to our backup box which is identical to our primary box(no errors when booting up).

At 5am we experienced the same issue again with the same emails taking roughly 46 minutes to complete the batch.

We can't understand why this is happening and would appreciate any insight anyone has to offer.

    Apologies after checking again turns out we sent out about 4,000 of these morning batch emails.

    On the advanced tab in SMTP:

    1. Do you have the ability to use an upstream Smarthost.  I would think that could be a better option as it should be optimized for much larger outbound pipes.

    2. Nonetheless, what are your numerical settings in the advanced settings section of the advanced tab?

    We could possibly use a another smarthost relay in the way of Trend micro however the service we offer our clients means that we need to be able to say 100% to them that email was delivered to their end rather than saying email was delivered to Trend Micro, if you understand what I mean ?

    As for the settings I have listed them below:

    Max connections:20
    Max connections/host:10
    Max mails/connection:1000
    Max rcpt/mail:100

    Hi,
    just my experience:
    don't touch these standard parameter.


    Instead, check if you reallly need these options:

    Scan relayed (outgoing) messages

    Reject invalid HELO / missing RDNS
    Do strict RDNS checks
    Use Greylisting
    Use BATV
    Perform SPF check

    Check if you DNS is properly configured.


    Accepting emails (ASG) is always faster than sending emails outside. If your queue is filling up, the sending performance will go down.
