Whitelisting not working in 8.203?

So my wife is on a mailing list.  The emails are from "Improvements Catalog" .  She complains that 'release&whitelist' doesn't keep subsequent ones from being quarantined.  I have added the above sender to the explicit global whitelist, with and without '*' at the front (not sure if the '*' is needed for pattern matching), and it doesn't help - still getting quarantined?

    Now I'm confused.  I've done that.  I see quarantined items in the log in yellow.  There is timestamp, sender and recipient - there is no 'reason' shown?  In the reason filter section, I unchecked every box but "spam", and it still shows, so it is considered spam.  I don't really care why it thinks it's spam, I just want it whitelisted, but as I said, it seems wrong to use the Return-Path for that decision, rather than the From: address.  Am I making sense at all?  One reason I think this is bogus is that the From: address is not only always the same, but the part of the envelope that shows in your typical MUA, which Return-Path doesn't.  Am I being unclear?  Or just dense?

    Try this in your exceptions list (or start a new one for your wife):  *@*improvementscatalog.com

    Check all 7 boxes in the AntiSpam section.  After you know she's getting the e-mails, you can back off on the choices you don't need.
