Whitelisting not working in 8.203?

So my wife is on a mailing list.  The emails are from "Improvements Catalog" .  She complains that 'release&whitelist' doesn't keep subsequent ones from being quarantined.  I have added the above sender to the explicit global whitelist, with and without '*' at the front (not sure if the '*' is needed for pattern matching), and it doesn't help - still getting quarantined?

    Okay, I admit I'm not an SMTP expert, but what I just saw looks broken.  I was adding the whitelist entries on the basis of the From: address, since that is what the user sees when they look at the header.  And that is in fact email@e.improvementscatalog.com.  What is showing up in the smtp log was (for the most recent one): bo-bwjjzegbfqrzzeau7u1tu@b.e.improvementscatalog.com.  Here's what I saw when I looked at the full set of SMTP headers: the above address is the Return-Path address, not the From address.  I dunno about ASG, but I've never used an SMTP MTA before where I had to white/blacklist based on the Return-Path.  Is this a bug?
