Here's what the Astaro logs:
/var/log/smtp.log:2011:10:21-00:49:17 firewall exim[25633]: 2011-10-21 00:49:17 SMTP connection from [208.109.80.59]:57124 (TCP/IP connection count = 3)

Recipient verification is off. The log indicates that verification is performed on all incoming emails, but that may be an eroneous message. In all other cases where a message was received, the recipient verification line came immediately after the greylisting line above. Note that the sending server gave up on the conversation exactly one minute after the greylisting message.
I figured that the problem would be that the tarpitting setting in the Astaro SMTP Proxy was too long to work with some high-volume mail services, but Astaro Support says that the Astaro doesn't do tarpitting.
Creating an exception for everything but anti-virus resolved the problem, but I don't like not knowing why.
Does anyone have an idea of what might have caused this issue? Is this possibly a bug only seen when recipient verification is not enabled?
Cheers - Bob
