Mail sent from website - best practice?

A customer has a website that processes orders.

When an order is processes it will then send a confirmation to the buyer with the sender spoofed as sales@thedoamin.com and also copy to sales@thedomain.com.

Presently the developer sends the mails directly from his site.
The buyer gets an email (usually) but the Astaro (with the mx record for the domain) gets nothing.

The developer says he does this all the time and it is the Astaro that is the issue.

What is wrong with this picture?

    Tom, if the problem is that the emails aren't getting to the Astaro, then neither of your solutions will work.  Are you certain that his "spoofed from address is not even making it to the Astaro" because you checked the Astaro SMTP log?  Have you tried an Exception for Anti-Spam for the IP he's sending from?

    Yes there is not record of the emails in the Mail Manager SMTP log.
    The ip of the external website has an exception from spam checking.

    If the mail never shows up is it save to say it is being filtered along the way?
