Mail sent from website - best practice?

A customer has a website that processes orders.

When an order is processes it will then send a confirmation to the buyer with the sender spoofed as sales@thedoamin.com and also copy to sales@thedomain.com.

Presently the developer sends the mails directly from his site.
The buyer gets an email (usually) but the Astaro (with the mx record for the domain) gets nothing.

The developer says he does this all the time and it is the Astaro that is the issue.

What is wrong with this picture?

    Sorry... I was actually looking for some advice on what to tell the web designer.

    His spoofed from address is not even making it to the Astaro.

    Which on of these is preferred?


    1. He could craft the emails to set "From" to his legitimate domain and "Reply to" to the domain handled by Astaro.

    or

    2. He could send all mail to the Astaro, which would be set to allow relay from his server ip.
