What does the ‘upstream hosts/network’ option really do?

Hello everybody!

Can anyone explain to us, which security checks are skipped by putting a server to the upstream hosts list? Is this a kind of whitelist allowing all mails coming through upstream hosts without further spam checks? Or does it just strip off the last envelope header and performing anti-spam checks against the second to from headers?

    Thank you for your reply. In the meantime I opend a support case and got an answer to that question: whenever the mails are not delivered directly by the sender, the intermediate server who does the forwarding needs to be placed to the upstream host list in order to make the spam technology work. By putting it there it will NOT generate a trusted relationship with that host in any way. It will just skip some parts of the headers and some scanning methods like SPF or RBL. But it will use the other spam and virus checks.
