Scanning mail via pop 995 and smtp 587

I think you cannot scan mail traffic with these ports. And also: encrypted mail traffic is not scanned (if I correctly remember, 995 is used for encrypted pop)

I think eclipse79 is right about POP3-SSL not being scanned, and that the POP3 Proxy is bypassed when you use 995.  If you check elsewhere in this forum, you'll see that you can't use the Proxy with Gmail.

In general, traffic handled by a proxy is never seen by the packet filter rules.  In your initial installation, you probably caused the wizard to create a packet filter rule allowing 'Email Messaging' - I bet you would find that turning that rule off would stop your email traffic.  That would prove that the traffic was not handled by the POP3 Proxy.

About two years ago, we discussed using the SMTP Proxy with clients, and concluded that, while it's possible, the options are limited and it's really only practical to use the SMTP Proxy with a client if you have your own domain.  This proxy really is meant to be used with a mail server where your clients communicate directly with your mailserver.
