I use Astaro web security as well as email security. Web is running on an ASG220 and email filtering is running on an ASG120 behind the 220.
My concern was with links in email. I noticed several spam messages getting though with shortened url's. Those messages were blatant spam but the astaro wasn't catching them. My main concern was someone clicking on the link and it containing malware or worse. I don't know if the link scanner will follow shortened links.
After blocking any messages containing a shortener, I haven't had any issues. I have had this practice in place for over a month.
I'm blocking goo.gl, bit.ly, tinyurl.com and .cc, ity.im, mcaf.ee
I have not had a single valid message blocked because of this rule. I process around 4000 messages per day total but YMMV.
