pop3 proxy problem.

Hi,

I have a client who haves problem when replicate mail outside the office, the asg is configure as pop3 proxy, because the mail server its on cloud and its configure to don't save mails on server, so when a end user replicate mail outside the office for example, downloads mail and when return to the office replicate again and the same emails download again, the prefech mode its enable. Some one know how can i fix this?

    Hi,

    With a recent mail client and a recent POP3 server implementation the problem you described should not happen.

    Problems like the one you are describing are probably caused by either the used mail client or the POP3 server not supporting the UIDL feature of the POP3 protocol. The initial specification of the POP3 protocol (see RFC 1081, published 1988) did not contain this feature, so later specifications of the POP3 protocol (RFC 1725, published 1994) added the UIDL feature as optional. Nowadays almost all mail clients support the UIDL command and expect the POP3 server to support it too.

    My guess is, that the involved POP3 server does not support the UIDL command. The log file for the POP3 proxy should say something about this (search it for the keyword 'UIDL'...).

    Actually I can't tell you any work around for this problem. But I hope this answer helps you to understand what causes the problem.
