Can I still use the firewall as an SMTP relay...

...even when my email subscription has expired?

I've switched from using a hosted exchange server to using google apps for email, mainly so I don't have to renew my email security subscription. I have some web applications that need to be able to send email out. Currently I have it connecting directly to exchange using a dedicated email address. I'd like to possibly have it connect to the firewall instead, then have the firewall itself relay the email up to google (or possibly just send the email itself given I still have our firewall listed in our MX record).

Can I do this (sans scanning) with an expired email scanning license? What's the easiest way to set this up?

    On your next renewal, the SMTP Proxy won't be activated.

    If you want to continue to use the Exchange server to relay, you need to remove the proxy, create DNAT and PF rules and make the necessary changes in the smarthost setting in Exchange.

    I'm boat anchoring exchange and the computers it runs on. We switched everyone to google apps, and I'm as happy as a little girl.

    So it just gives up on SMTP proxy, instead of not scanning? I guess I'll find out on Monday after the expiration date.

    If you're on the new licensing model ('Network Security' appears on the 'Licensing' 'Overview' tab), the SMTP Proxy will be deactivated.

    Shoot. Oh well. I *just* switch over to the new licensing model and upgraded for another year of web security this last week.

    My reports are no longer getting forwarded either. I just setup the google smtp servers in the static host list. Am I supposed to do something else in order to get these reports out to my new google email? The firewall is still listed in my mx chain for my domain, just after all the google servers.

    The MX records are for receiving, not sending, so they won't affect this.  In any case, you definitely should make the changes to eliminate the SMTP proxy settings.  I think you then can just flush the DNS cache and Astaro will find your new Google-based addresses.

    Oops, I had forgotten to add the "to" account as an alias in google! Here I am running all over the firewall trying to figure out what was going wrong...

    I did set up our IP addy's as possible email forwarders in google also. So we're back getting notifications! Yay!

    No SMTP proxy love though. Oh well.

    That is quite disappointing to me as I am using the SMTP proxy just as a relay without any scanning.  The scanning takes place on our Barracuda and on our exchange server.  

    I suppose I could add scanning and use the proxy, but I would rather just be allowed to use the proxy without scanning and not have to pay for the licenses.

    I like being able to track message progress through an SSH session watching the SMTP proxy log in real time.
