ASG Generated emails "waiting for delivery"

Mail Security is turned off and I have DNAT rules allowing traffic from the internet to my internal mail server. All of the mail is properly delivered from the internet to my internal mail server and vice versa. The problem is ASG generated notification emails are hung-up in the spool. I'm sure that I am missing something very simple. 

Any idea?

    What happens if you add a record to 'Network Services >> DNS' 'Static Entries' with the FQDN of the "lowest numbered MX record" pointing at the internal IP of your mail server?  Something like

    mail.domain.com -> 10.10.10.10
