recommendation Port 587 or 465

Hi,

which port should I use for mail relaying?
Which is the most secure one ?

My iphone can use port 465 with SSL and Port 587 with ssl with my astaro box (v7.505).

I assume, that my ihone opens an SSL Tunnel on Port 465 and uses authentication.

With Port 587, I asume that TLS (with SSL on) is used on the iphone.

With Port 465 and SSL, I have the feeling that it takes much longer, until the iphone has sent the mails out.

My choice whould be, Port 587 (because it's faster), but what about the security.
Are auth credentials encrypted wit TLS ?

Hi, 587 is more common so it is more likely not to be blocked at various hotels, etc.

I don't believe there are any security problems with either protocol; the auth and data are encrypted with both.
