Email filter

How much junk mail can Astaro alone filter out 80%, 90%, is there a certain number? And it is best practice to use a hardware solution alone? Or is it better to use hardware and software applications? We would be running Exchange 2003 on Server 2003. What are some way we can limit our exposure of junk email, while running Astaro version 7.504.

In our experience, about 95% of email is spam. With one type of exception, Astaro (hardware or software version) stops all of that except for about one email per week per email account. The one type that Astaro doesn't block as effectively is "Advance-fee fraud (Nigerian 419)" - it lets through about 50 per month per account. I suppose you could add another anti-spam step between Astaro and Exchange, but that doesn't seem worth it. Personally, I use the SpamBayes add-in with Outlook, and that catches the few scam attempts that arrive.

Now, anti-virus is a different story. You should have Astaro at the perimeter, but also every client PC should have anti-virus. If your organization is larger, you likely can justify an A-V program for your Exchange server.

Thanks for the reply. Now we do have Panda AV on our clients and will be using this also on Exchange. We also have Astaro scanning for any unneed traffic. So with this setup we should not get flooded with SPAM. Now of course it helps if our users don't sign up for any free or known SPAM lists right?
