invisible outgoing email saturating upload

i'm having a problem with yahoo mailservers which constanly delay mail and as such my upload es getting hammered by ASG which continuously retries even when the remote server turns a deferred return or broken pipe.

yesterday i saw the offending mail in the smtp spool in the mail manager and deleted, all is well until some hours after in which the upload is getting hammered again by the same type of traffic but this time the spool is EMPTY(same with the counters on the webadmin).

but i'm still getting:

and the pc who sent the mails still gets delayed messages even though the mail was supposedly deleted.

what's going on?, how can i kill/flush the queue for real(and why are the logs so... useless to trace problems...)

    in my case it's a 6MB attachment that triggers the issue, and as a workaround i did a global limit on SMTP outgoing traffic to 70% of upload which in my case is acceptable as mail volume is pretty low

    Bob, I'm not a fan of Gmail myself (my customers would rather not have their email relayed through a company's mail servers whose founders have publicly stated that we should have no expectation of privacy when using their services--ok, rant over [:)]  ) ;   -- but I'd check with the ISP that the charity uses; many ISPs do supply a SMTP smarthost for free or a nominal fee.

    Yeah, the limit I placed at this one customer's site was 100Kb/s for Yahoo only... in case someone forgot about not sending large attachments (which the same user did 3 times over the past 3 weeks or so, after being warned, gotta love users).  That 6MB attachment probably ballooned to a little over 10MB, since MIME is so inefficient.

    I am having a similar problem with mail to Yahoo.
    Several emails of large size ( > 10MB) were stuck in the outgoing spooler. I deleted these and requested that the sender reduce the size of the emails and try again, but these smaller emails (

    It's not a permanent block; I've found that sometimes (for the sake of expediency) after cleaning up the stuck emails a reboot is in order.  I recommend that you implement a QoS rule that limits bandwidth usage of yahoo-bound emails (see the first page of this thread, I posted the details there) to prevent this from happening again.

    On the 4th, I had "broken pipe" messages for the yahoo.com servers beginning at 13:41, and that corresponds to the time the Executive Report shows our outbound traffic maxed the pipe; The "broken pipe" messages stopped at 15:34 on the 7th when a 14MB message to a yahoo.com address finally timed out.  We don't use much outbound since our webserver is hosted by Bluehost, so I only noticed this when looking back at some of the Exec reports.

    Time to add the workaround suggested on page 2 by BruceKConvergent and William...

    Yep.  I've pre-emptively added QoS rules for Yahoo (limiting) mail to almost all of my managed customers' configurations for this.

    Hi,

    Is the QoS rule the only cure for this issue? I am using 7.508, and was wondering if this issue is solved in a later version.

    AFAIK, this is still an issue; the only way to tell is to try sending a large email to a yahoo recipient and see if it breaks.
