I am using the gateway for outbound mail relay and have athentacation option selected so only users that have an ID and PW can send mail through the gateway from external networks. On the clients I have configured the Port to be 587 and I have the Server requires an SSL connection selected on the mail client. When I send mail the client gets a Cert error as follows
The server you are connected to is using a security ciertficate that could not be verified. A certificate chain processed. But terminated in a root certifacte which is not trusted by the trust provider. Do you want to continue using this server?
I can press Yes and the mail gets sent.
I am using SSL so the user name and PW does not transmit in clear text but am not to concerned about the email content and I am not using e-mail encryption. Is there a way to import or install a cert say from Godaddy.com so the clients have a clear chain all the way to the top? Or do I need SSL selected in the first place. If no SSL is needed how do I protect the username and PW from being clear text?
