SMTP Spool doesn't bounce erroneous message

I have one message in my spool which hs been there for 3 days now.

it'S always trying to deliver but it won't stop or bounce the message back.

2009-08-12 20:35:01 SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<>: host mail1.[mailhost].net [212.***.***.2]: 421 Unexpected failure, please try later
2009-08-12 20:35:02 SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:: host mail2.[mailhost].net [212.***.***.1]: 421 Unexpected failure, please try later

Is there anyway I can make it stop trying to deliver it? I thought this would happen after a maximum of 24h...

Okay, it was rejected now. But it took more than 3 days to do that. Is there any way to decrease that time? 3 days is way to much for a user to get notified, that the email didn't reach anyone!
