No more than 10 lines allowed

I having the same problem as the user above - and I note no one has provided any explanation or solution until today :-(

My config:
Astaro 7.4040
POP proxy turned on
POPFile spam filtering proxy
Eudora 7 mail client

Symptoms:
- with proxy turned off, POP mail works fine, spam filter works fine, astaro works fine
- with Astaro proxy turned on, fetching mail fails immediately (not a time out issue). Eudora reports the error message "no more than 10 lines allowed". The POP command being sent is TOP 1 20

I can't use the proxy until this is fixed :-(

In fact, this is how I found the link with Astaro in the first place: I typed in Google "10 lines allowed"...and only 4 links came back, all on Astaro.org. Since I do have an Astaro, I stopped bugging my mail hosting company immediately ;-)

Unfortunately, although the problem is listed in the FAQ, the only solution is for configuring FetchMail (to stop using a TOP 3 99999999 command ; the developer wrote "We have intentionally limited the TOP account, because it could otherwise be used to circumvent the content scanning")

I am not trying to configure a mail proxy, I am just using plain Eudora 7, which apparently is trying to do a TOP 1 20, ie bigger than Astaro's default limit...but not excessively above. I've been using the combination Astaro+Eudora for 2 years without problems, it's only when I tried using the POP proxy that this happens.

Can I change an Astataro config file somewhere?

I doubt that that is information Astaro would want in the public domain... just because of what the developer said.

Well that is certainly guaranteed to make the product hacker proof:
- make a product that doesn't work (POP3 proxy with Eudora mail client)
- don't publish any fix

This is even safer than physically locking up the room with a steel gate and throwing the key away

Seriously, though, I haven't seen this here in the last two years, so I suspect there is a Eudora setting.  Have you tried posting a question in one of their user forums?

My other thought would be to use prefetch to get the POP3 Proxy to download and scan all of the mail before Eudora asks for it.

If you really want to use TOP with more than 10 lines you can change max_top_lines in pop3proxy.conf AND pop3proxy.conf-default (both in /var/storage/chroot-pop3/etc). -1 disables the limit. Don't forget to restart the proxy.
Use at your own risk! Mails fetched with the TOP command won't be scanned!
