Cache all delivered mails on ASG for download/resend

Hi everybody!

Does anyone know if it's possible to cache all delivered mails on the ASG (V7.4.1) for further use (download or resend)?

Sometimes I've got the problem that users have deleted their mails before the backup on the Exchange-Server got them and then request them to be restored "from somewhere".
Sometimes users state that "they never received" the mail, ignoring the SMTP log with the words "what do I know, it's simply not there".

I would be happy if I could simply resend the mails from the ASG to the user if they complain that they deleted or "didn't get it".

    There are logging applications specifically for Exchange that do what you want.

    Exchange doesn't erase its logs until after they've been backed up, so, if you really had to, I suppose you could pull the information from a prior backup or from the current Exchange logfiles.  I haven't done that personally, but I know that it's possible using Recovery groups in Exchange 2003 or later.

    Also, most email systems keep copies of sent mail.  You might ask the person if he would prefer to have you spend an hour or two retrieving the email for him, or if he could just ask the sender to resend the email.

    In the situation you describe, I think I'd be wondering if I deserved to be treated like that or if my boss was just a jerk to everyone!

    Well, I COULD live without them... but it would be a boring life for me and the ASG... so it's better to face the challange! :-)

    The end users aren't really believing what they are telling. If I look at their faces I see something like "I know I messed it up, but can't commit it... but I'm sure you can help me... you always could!"
    We both agree to blame it on the ghost in the system and go on... [8-)]

    So the most simple thing would be to log in to the mail manager and push the "resend"-button that isn't there yet.

    Sure, asking the sender for a resend would also be simple - but very embarrassing if it's a customer.

    Maybe Astaro can integrate such feature in the upcoming versions...

    Exchange has this function built in... you can set a time period on how long deleted items stay in the DB until they are "really" deleted... I set this to 30 days or so in most cases.  To recover deleted items, one can go to the deleted items folder in their mailbox from Outlook, and go to the tools menu, there is a recover deleted items option there...

    This is the most-unexpected thing I've learned this month!

    I knew I could do that from the Exchange System Manager on the server, I had no idea it was possible for end-users to do it from the Outlook Client.

    I was going to say the same thing.  Now if only MS Servers came with a built in undelete function . .
