Can this be done?

I'm looking for a solution that my mail server should be able to solve, but currently does not.

I need to block/strip a particular file extension which is being received. That in itself is easy to do and can be done with either my mail server or the Astaro product. But it does it for ALL users.

The part that is most important to me, and the one the email server vendor can't do yet, is to be able to block/strip this attachment on an individual user basis.

Simply put - can a filter be crafted for my Astaro which can strip an attachment which end in .xyz but only if it the To: field of the email is joe@acme.com and allow the remainder of the email to continue on it's merry way?

Any thoughts?

    If I understand your question, you should be able to block for everyone, then establish an exception for specific recipient addresses.  This will apply to all extension blocking; you can't get as granular as an exception for a specific extension.  Have you played with that?

    What I actually need is the opposite of that. I need to allow the email and attachments for everyone except deny just the attachments for a specific address (i.e. still let the person read the email, just not receive the attachments)

    You could create a group that includes everyone but the one person.  Is this a large installation?  Are you using Active Directory?

    No and kinda.

    No, not that large - under 100, but would still be a pain to enter that mail accounts manually into a filter.

    Kinda using AD, but not for the mail server and it is not part of the Astaro setup either. It's used internally for network system access, but is not tied into the third-party email server we use (Ipswitch iMail). Blame it on a small organization growing by bits and pieces over the years, not fully expecting or understanding the possible need to have things setup differently. Too late for some changes now.

    Thanks for your time. I'm starting to think it's probably not that doable with my current setup?

    Seems like a good time to put together a long-term plan.  That's too large of an organization to manage efficiently without standards and integration.  Good luck getting them to go for that.
