Mails gets rejected from the backup-mx

Hi.

We are an ISP in Austria with some customers using the Astaro ASG 525. These customers have their own domain and mail server but using the backup-mx-service from us. (The backup-mx-service is nothing more than a store and forward of all incoming mail, without spam-filtering at our side.)

Now the problem is that the Astaro-Box rejects incoming mail from our backup-mx. Our backup-mx thinks there is a problem with the primary mx and continuously tries to deliver these mails (but without success). If the rejected mail is a spam-message where the sender- and receiver-address is the same, the notifications generated from the backup-mx passes the Astaro-Box and is delivered right to the user’s inbox. So the user gets no spam, but instead a lot of notifications from our backup-mx.

My question: Does the "Upstream host/networks"-Option solve this problem? The Astaro-Box should simply accept all mails from our backup-mx (no check of these mails against RBLs and Greylisting) but should perform regular anti-spam check in a second step (where the mails have already been accepted by/delivered to the Astaro-Box).

    That likely will solve the problem.

    If not:
    Have them open the 'Mail Manager' from 'Mail Security >> Mail Manager' and look on the 'SMTP Log' tab to see why the emails are rejected.

    The "Upstream host/networks"-Option doesn't make any difference. The mails still gets rejected during the SMTP-Dialog.

    The desired behavior should be, that ALL mails (also Spam-Mails) from our Backup-MX gets accepted by the Astaro-Box and the box should discard them "in a second step" but not in the SMTP-Dialog. Is this even possible?

    Is this possible with Exceptions, where for a specific host I skip RBL, RDNS, Greylisting, ... except "Anti-Spam checking"? Or is "Anti-Spam checking" also performed during the SMTP-Dialog?

    From our customer I requested the STMP Log (Mail-Manager), and post the reason why the mails gets rejected as soon as I get the log.

    If your customer has an SPF record, then an exception for the SPF check for your server might solve the problem, but skipping the other checks wouldn't hurt.  You are correct that the anti-spam checking is applied after the SMTP dialog, as is the anti-virus checking.
