Antispam Defeated

I have been receiving a large number of spam messages that have made it through my ASG. The body of the message is nothing but a gif or jpg or a link to those kinds of files.

Initially, the subject line was innocuous stuff such as "Hey, I Saw You On The Street!" but has now reverted to more offensive subject matter. My ASG is unable to stop these messages.

    Hi I'm getting lots of similar emails, to a pop3 account.
    All with the same from and to email address.
    But as this is using the pop3 proxy and there is very little options in the POP3 Anti-Spam Filter.
    I have no problems with SMTP Mail just the POP3.
    Options?
    Thoughts?

    I'm sorry I don't have any quick answers right now.  We are seeing a dramatic recovery in SPAM volumes in the past several days.  The McColo takedown a couple of months ago led to a period of significantly reduced SPAM, but in the past week it appears that bot command and control channels are quickly being rebuilt. See the Commtouch stats page tells the story Spam Lab Online Statistics, look at the 30 day view.

    Yes it was very interesting following the mccolo events and seeing all the changes and the dns name changes, also it was good to see a couple of isp's (respond responsibility) that they moved to kicked them off after a couple of days. It was also a interesting to see the web bots in action during that period.
    Unfortunately these people pay their isp bills and can be seen as good customers to "sales" who drive these companies (ie bottom line). It is very difficult to prove that anything illegal is going on.

    While everybody hates SPAM and it costs the Global economy Billions of Dollars in lost productivity, it also has created an industry in trying to defeat SPAM.

    I think Industry wide that IT people must hate SPAM the most.
