POP3 / Prefetch

Is your mail client on the LAN setup to delete the emails after you download them?

If it isnt, that would explain why you are getting all the emails again.

It's the same client (laptop), and it's set to delete after download...

Hmm, not sure what to tell ya. I have had problems recently using prefetch and have had to disable it. Apparently its a hit or miss thing according to other posts I have read. The only other thing I can suggest is to watch Live POP3 proxy log. 

You should see the following activity: 
prefetch for Account ***
connection from your client
log in from you client (account ***)
id = "1100" indicating messages being downloaded.
Then a delete request that would be for the ASG to delete the message from email host and the ASG prefetch.
Oh yeah amost forgot a log out message (may be before or after the delete request)


The might be something else there that might give an indication of what the problem is.

Are you running your own internal mail server or is it hosted mail server?

The client receives mail from about 5 account (3 different), logs look - as I can see - normal. There's not internal server....

I am not sure what else to tell ya to try or check. Maybe someone else may be able to jump in.

The only other thing you can do is to disable the prefetch. Re-Download  and delete the emails from your mail server and then re-enable prefetch and see if it happens again.

Otherwise, disable the prefetch like the rest of us. You will still get the spam and virus scanning protection.

The 7.3x POP3 proxy has been very solid, are you running current software?

In pre-fetch mode you need to make sure there is only one POP server listed, if it is a hostname and does DNS round-robin you may need to pick a single IP.  Also, the ASG/AMG must use the same server as the clients, or the client may grab a copy from one server and the AxG may pre-fetch from another.

I've got 3 POP-Server (2 Servers have 2 account) listed - at the LAN it's working as it should. The issue only occur if I dial in and try to download mails.

So the difference is the client IP - might this cause that?

Are your packet-filter-rules and allowed networks for the proxy correct? If not maybe your client bypasses the proxy when connecting over PPTP. Please check if there is a "connection from  for " logline when you are connecting from PPTP.

The rules for LAN and PPTP (the source network is differnent of course) are the same - as on LAN it's working I assume that the settings are correct ;.)
