new to SMTP/POP3

Hi all

I am new to SMTP/POP3 so please bear with me 
If I have an exchange server in my network and all the clients are configured to use it, Do I have to configure the client to use Astaro as SMTP server instead of the exchange? Or I need to configure the exchange to use Astaro? 
And does POP3 proxy scan every pop3 request on my network?
what is the difference between routing and relaying ?

    You have nothing to do with your email clients.
    In the Astaro under Mail Security-SMTP
    use Simple mode under the global tab
    routing tab, put in your domain name, unter host list your
    internal email server and
    under relaying your relay from server, in most cases the same
    internal email server.

    so if I configured and account on outlook (gmail, or any other account), and I want the outgoing mail to be scanned using the smpt proxy should I put it in transparent mode and in the relaying I put in the "host based relay" my internal network ?

    'Host-based relay' should only include your Exchange server unless you have some other device that should be sending email.

    We don't use the transparent mode anywhere, and all outgoing and incoming emails are virus-scanned.  I'd welcome input on situations where others have seen the need for it.

    I mean if the exchange server is used only for internal mails only, nobody can send emails to the internet; Can I  still use the smtp proxy or it is useless since no emails are going to the internet?

    no need for an smtp proxy if you aren't going to the internet.

    I'm sorry but I still don't get it, I turned off the smtp proxy and I configured snat rule to make the users send mail using outlook but it didn't work until I turn on the smtp ;
