POP3 proxy core files

Hi,

My Datadisk is quickly filling up with "core.pop3proxy"-files. It seems that the pop3proxy crashes 2-3 times every minute(!). This is on a freshly installed ASG-7.300 (had to replace the HD).

Oddly enough, I don't seem to have lost any email. But I have to manually delete the core files before they fill the disk.

Anyone have an idea what I can try before I do another reinstall?

One solution would be to disable system wide core dumps:

Login as root to your ASG, and open with an editor /etc/profile. There's a line right at the beginning: 'ulimit -c 524288'. Change that line to read 'ulimit -c 0'. After this modification, reboot the ASG.

If your not familar with such under-the-hood modifications, you could send a login to sschnelle@astaro.com, or contact support.

Thanks for the tip. Of course, this only fixes the symptom and not the cause, but as long as I can postpone that reinstall I am happy.

Yes, i admit that the word 'solution' for this workaround is simply wrong [:$].
Our POP3 Expert is next week back from vacation, is it possible to get a login to your installation? He probably want to take a look why the pop3proxy is behaving that bad [:)]

Sure, that can be arranged. Administration is not accessible from the internet, though, so I'd need precise instructions on how to configure the GW to allow remote administration in a securely-as-possible manner.

At this point I should probably point out that I am using the free version, and so am probably not entitled to professional support from you guys (that's why I asked here on the forum instead of opening a support ticked).

BTW: I tried the "ulimit -c" option in /etc/profile as you suggested, but am still getting those core-files (yes, I rebooted the GW [:)] )

Sure, that can be arranged. Administration is not accessible from the internet, though, so I'd need precise instructions on how to configure the GW to allow remote administration in a securely-as-possible manner.

To allow remote Access for us, please do the following:

- Login to webadmi
- Go to Management -> System Settings -> Shell Access
- Enable SSH by clicking on the traffic light
- Add 213.144.15.0/26 to the Allowed Network list (thats the Astaro public IP space)
- Click Apply, a green confirmation text should confirm that the settings where applied
- In the box below, insert some secure password in both the loginuser/root field, and click apply.

Thanks for submitting this bug. The proxy doesn't really crash, it's an unclean shutdown if the client closes the connection without sending QUIT.

This issue should have been fixed in the newly released V7.301 release.
