I have started to try and use the SMTP Proxy to help with filtering our mail as our Exchange server seems overloaded and our existing solution GFI Mail Essentials seems to crash out at times leaving us with a (usually overnight) spamfest in the morning.
I noticed that the Astaro does not dig into ZIP files for extension blocking which is a real shame - we have had a marked increase in mail attacks with zipped EXE files. The Astaro does not block these attachments with EXE files being specified as a blocked extension. Yes I know you are going to say well you need to specify .ZIP as a blocked extension :-) This is would not go down well with most people as they receive zipped attachments regularly. Also our Exchange level antivirus DOES look into ZIP files and block them based on the content. Problem is it seems any mail accepted by the Astaro seems to somehow bypass the Exchange level virus checking and the attachments are ending up in peoples mailboxes.
Anyone got any advise or solutions to this? What are peoples views on the virus checking capabilities - I am not confident in the Astaro security right now and have fallen back to our eTrust antivirus for Exchange. I would like to use both so I have extra levels but cannot work out how the Astaro is circumventing the scanning.
Thanks,
Chris
