I hope I can explain this right. I have a home-licensed Astaro running at home and a full Astaro 220 running at the office. When spam comes in at home for a mailbox that does not exist, the SMTP engine log looks something like this:

and the spam is rejected right at the front door before even coming into quarantine. This is good and what I want.
However, on the office Astaro which is interfaced to Exchange 2003, when it gets to Verifying recipient address, there is never the Address unknown indication. So spams are initially accepted in the front door and then land in the quarantine area. Then at night spam reports are sent out to these non-existent mailboxes.
I have done recipient filtering on the Exchange server to not allow mail to nonexisting users but it still doesn't seem to make a difference in stopping the spam right at the front door, although it does bounce anything that gets past quarantine. What else do I need to do to the Exchange server to get it to respond to the Astaro with the "Address unknown" reply, and prevent the spam from getting as far as quarantine for mailboxes that don't exist?
