SMTP proxy: 550 address unknown

Hi All

I'm very new to the Astaro, but as we're considering it for work, I need to learn more about it.

I've tried setting up the SMTP proxy for my internal mailserver, I've added all the domains that are pointing to it, and I've given the internal mailserver.

But when I try to send from the outside, I just get a 'Address Unknown'.
Do I really need to create all the e-mail addresses that are in use?

An example from the log:

I'm very confused by now :-) I do hope somebody can help me out here.

    Nope, sorry. I gave up on the Astaro, it was to complicated, very advanced though. But it was more than I needed and also less than I needed :-)

    I didn't need that many advanced services, but I needed more IP's on the inside.
    So I've gone to pfSense, much easier to work with.

    Your backend server denied the message when you got 550 not astaro. Astaro is doing the verification at
    2008:03:02-00:28:32 (none) exim[29138]: 2008-03-02 00:28:32 [pid 29138] [217.146.189.57] F= R= Verifying recipient address

    and then rejecting the message since your backend server gave it a 550 no such user. Send a message to a real user on the backend or disable user verification on the backend.

    Firewall is your first line of defense. If it is not configured right and is too complicated for you, it will give you a false sense of security and make your life difficult by denying legitimate traffic. Just go with what you can manage.

    Well, no, it never got to my internal server, no entry in the logs, so it's somewhere else there was a denial.
    But I agree that the firewall should be easily manageble, and pfSense is easier in that respect.

    My most important criteria is that it should be free, as it's running at home, and it's too expensive to maintain everything as payware. That clinched it for me.
