I've talked with our Astaro-reseller yesterday, and he said that Astaro is working on an update currently, which will completely replace exim!
And with this update, the blacklist will return.
However, I don't know when this update will be available.
I've been told that it will be something proprietary. The replacement for Squid is also "made by Astaro", isn't it?
The problem is: If the mailserver is not a well known product anymore, we can't do any hacking anymore. The next time ASG is botched by an update (remember the "missing smtp-blacklist incident" [;)]) we can't fix it by changing some conf-file. We'll have to wait for the next update! [:@]
I hope that the changeover will be without surprises. Not being able to blacklist smtp mail is serious oversight in the current release in our opinion. Astaro should perhaps expose more functionality in the web interface so that companies that use Astaro for example to route mail to an incoming/outgoing archive will be able to do this without having to hack the conf files.
The new 7.3 promises great improvements in SMTP handling. It really looks good and so far with me, performs well. However ... is it possible to have a function like the Exim "unseen delivery" made visible in the web interface. We need this for corporate governance reasons and we need to have the ability to forward a copy of all incoming and outgoing mail to a separate archive server.
As it appears that this is not possible in the new release, has anyone any suggestions on how to achieve this?
Exim is one of the most stable and configurable MTA. This new trend of astaro to move toward proprietary sofware is quite alarming. Plus new software brings new security holes. Exim, postfix etc have been tested and retested in different configurations under heavy loads and if security issues arise, everybody becomes aware of them real fast. In proprietary configurations, nobody knows till somebody posts proof of concept code on the internet. If I wanted proprietary with GUI, M$$ has been around for a while now.
