E-Mail Duplication / Outlook 2007 / POP Proxy

Dear all

I don't know if I'm the only one with this problem, so I post it here. I encounter a strange phenomena: After switching to Astaro v7, I was using POP3 Proxy with prefetch. It is to say with the pop option "leave messages on the server"

Now when I connect with Outlook 2007 some sort of a random amount of e-mails (but it is to say that the e-mails are within a selected timeframe and not randomly distributed over time) come in every time Outlook connects to astaro.

First it started with one e-mail, which has been downloaded with every "receive" cycle of Outlook. so at the end I got like 50 copies of it.

Not using outlook for a longer time (3-4 weeks) and now a total amount of 200-300 e-mails get downloaded every time Outlook has a receive cycle. It seems that astaro does not store correctly which e-mails have been downloaded already.

I cannot reproduce (better to say: to force) this error, it happens every time but to random emails...I cant figure out which e-mails get affected.

Any help is VERY appreciated, because I get convoluted with duplicates [:(]

    turn off the prefetch and see if the duplicates go away.

    Hi,
    check you outlook timeout setting (retry), when using prefetch this should be set to slightly greater than your prefetch time.

    okay, so I set the timeout in outlook, this did not help. I will try with the prefetch disabled (sorry for the late answer...Xmas is coming [:)] )

    Unfortunately, I must agree to the previous comments: The whole prefetch system looks terribly messed up. When I disabled the prefetch function, my outlook client started to download 3'300 messages (basically the whole web-email content).

    My e-mail data is completely f*** up. Sorry to be so harsh in critique. But don't touch the prefetch function...

    For Astaro: I'm using v7.100 and outlook 2007. Any help would be appreciated.

    so, I did a complete new mail file, and I've got 33 messages that still come every time when I "send & receive"... so it must be somehow on the ASG

    I deleted these 33 (times 30 [:)] ) messages and now it seems to work fine

    I am having the exact same problem with the same scenario. The problem is that I can't turn off prefetch without the whole company ripping my head off. I too saw that when I turned prefetch off that I personally would have received about 300 mails. Others would be up to about 700. 

    Is there a fix for this bug or a workaround without having to redeliver masses of mail? Would be great. I have about 10 People in support that need that "leave on server" check mark but they keep getting the same mails over and over again.

    I'am using Outlook 2003 and have the same problem. I receive my emails at work with my office-pc (in an network of apx. 50 PCs) behind an Astrao ASG220 and at home with my notebook behind my home-use Astaro Ver 7.104. Both Astaros are configured to use prefetch with 900s interval. Some times i took my notebook in the office an receive my emails there too. Even at home or in the office when receiving email with my notebook i get some emails which i allready have received a couple of days ago. I cannot figure out why. My Notebook is running Vista Ultimate, my Office PC WinXP.

    I had the same problem when I first installed my astaro product.  My client is set to leave a copy on the server.  When I had prefetch enabled, it would ALWAYS download all 500 emails or more from the server to my client.  Once I disabled prefetch mode entirely, it works perfectly now only grabbing the newest mail.



    Oh b.t.w, if it still doesnt work with prefetch disabled...which b.t.w you should really keep disabled anyways, no need for it. then what you need to do is, log into your web client.  For example I log into comcast.net.   Move all my email from my inbox into a seperate folder.  Do a send and receive on my outlook, thunderbird, etc client...  then move all the stuff back on the server.

    The pre-fetch function is touted to be a way to speed up mail downloads for the client. In theory it should work and should benefit those who are paying for it. However looks like it has only caused problems and delays for Astaro customers who unknowingly switch on the POP3 proxy (by default the pre-fetch function is enabled) during normal working days. I sure hope this issue gets fixed soon and allow Astaro's customers to truly benefit from it.
