[7.011] SMTP-Proxy adds \HEXCODE to sender Address

Hallo,

I did wonder for a few month why we can not send mails to Hotmail an few differnt clients. We are not listet on any RBLs or other blacklists.

No I did send a Mail to my own Linux SMTP-Host and did take a look to the mail.info log.

The Problem is, if we use Astaro as Smarthost the SMTP-Proxy on the Astaro will change the sender Address from username@domain.tld to username/4a7438a3764@domain.tld (the 4a7438a3764 is different for each sender address) so few SMTP hosts we tried to deliver messages to did discard our mails because of non existing senders.

Now I switcht to direct delivery without using Astaro for outgoing Mails. But this is a dirty solution.

Does anyone know whats up in this case?

Hi,

this is just the normal behavior of BATV. You can disable this feature in SMTP/Exceptions by adding a corresponding entry for hotmail.com.

this did work!

One more question: is BATV an official standard smtp-servers/relays should able to handle?
The problem is that some urgent mails could not be delivered to one of our client because auf the BATV "marking" of the senders address. The mails have been droped because of not valid email-sender-addresses.

Are there any information or whitepapers in the internet where i can take a look at? I need some arguments to get the shoe out of my a... [:)]

You should handle BATV like Greylisting. It SHOULD work but it's not guaranteed. There are some mail servers that have problems with the id in the mail header or filter mail by validating the sender address against a defined list. In those cases your only chance is to disable BATV like you now did for hotmail.
